Black Lives Around the World
Description
In the spring of 2017, the film series titled “Black Lives in America” launched with the aim of raising the profile of African American cinema. The series is intended as an invitation to shed light on the realities of Black life, struggles, and cultural expressions across various historical and geographical contexts.
New this year is the decision to split the season into two parts: Part 1 took place during Black History Month. Part 2 now follows around Juneteenth, the day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S., which commemorates June 19, 1865, when the emancipation of the last enslaved people in Texas was proclaimed.
The film “Judas and the Black Messiah” by Shaka King, which tells the story of the Black Panther movement, will be screened. Following the screening, there will be a discussion with activists from the ISD Nuremberg!
All films will be shown in their original language with German subtitles.
This event is taking place in cooperation with us, the German-American Institute, die Initiative Schwarzer Menschen in Deutschland, and the Casablanca Filmkunsttheater.
