Black Lives Halloween - Candyman
Description
“Black Lives” Halloween Special in collaboration with the Casablanca Filmkunsttheater in Nuremberg and ISD Nuremberg: Oscar winner Jordan Peele brings the horror film icon Candyman back to where it all began—in a once-run-down neighborhood of Chicago.
In Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood, the legend of the infamous Candyman—a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand—had long been circulating. It was said that all one had to do was say his name five times into a mirror to summon him. Decades later, visual artist Anthony McCoy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris), move into the neighborhood, which has since been swept up in gentrification. While Anthony’s artistic career has nearly stalled, a chance encounter with William Burke (Colman Domingo), a longtime resident of Cabrini Green, confronts him with the horrific, true story behind the Candyman. He delves deeper and deeper into the dark details behind the ghost story in the hope of breathing new life into his paintings. Soon, however, his own sanity is at stake…
The screening will be followed by a discussion with activists from ISD Nuremberg.
The film will be shown in its original language. Tickets can be purchased via the Casablancas website.
