Library Card
Would you like to sign up for our Library membership and take advantage of our wealth of resources? Here you can find instructions on how to sign up.The cost of a library card is 10€, valid for one year from the date of purchase, and is nontransferable; for members of the Förderverein, library membership is free.
Libby App
As a member of a DAI library, you can use Libby to read books and magazines as well as listen to audio books.
New to Libby? Please follow the instructions provided by the Carl-Schurz-Haus in Freiburg:
1. Download the Libby App
2. Open Libby. When you open it for the first time, Libby will ask, ‘Do you have a library card?’ Tap yes.
3. Find your library. Choose the option to Search For A Library. Type in DAI and then select U.S. Embassy Berlin (Heidelberg).
4. Log in. Tap Sign In With My Card. When asked where do you use your card, select Nürnberg - Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut, then enter your library card number and your password, which is your date of birth.
Example: 01.12.1999 if your date of birth is 01 December 1999.
5. You’re all set! Start borrowing e-books, audiobooks, and magazines whenever you like.
Library Loan Policy
Our library loan policy for books is 28 days, with an allowance of two extensions. For magazines and DVDs, the loan period is 14 days, with an allowance of one extension. Renewals are possible (via our online catalog or by email/phone) if the item has not been reserved. Newspapers and reference materials are not available for check-out.
Additional Costs
- Late fee: € 0.50 per medium and week
- Reservations: € 0,50
- Issuing a replacement ID card: € 3,00
- Photo copying: € 0,10 per page
- Internet usage: € 0,50 per half an hour
