International understanding doesn’t start in government halls or global summits—it starts at home. Across Germany, families are invited to take part in a truly rewarding experience: hosting high school exchange students from around the world, including the USA, Italy, France, Ireland, Estonia, Brazil, and Mexico.
These young students come for a few months or up to a full school year to immerse themselves in German culture, language, and everyday life. For them, it's a life-changing opportunity. For host families, it’s a chance to welcome the world into their home—and gain a fresh perspective on their own culture in the process.
But hosting is about more than offering a place to sleep and daily meals. It’s about sharing routines, conversations, celebrations, and even the quiet moments in between. It’s about building cross-cultural friendships and seeing your own life through new eyes. Throughout the student’s stay, families receive a monthly allowance and are supported by a dedicated and experienced team.
Many of the students from the United States are part of the prestigious Parliamentary Partnership Program (PPP), a scholarship funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress. This long-standing initiative promotes democratic values and transatlantic understanding—ideals that feel more urgent and meaningful than ever before.
Whether part of a family, a couple, or living alone, anyone with an open heart and a curious spirit can make a difference. Not in a position to host? You can still help by spreading the word in your community, workplace, or school.
