In 1998 the partnership between Atlanta and Nuremberg was formally set in place. In the 25 years since they became official “Sister Cities” this partnership has quickly become a meaningful part of the exchange of culture and ideas between Germany and the United States.
Our Amerikahaus Youth Club (AYC) here in Nürnberg travelled to Atlanta back in the fall of 2023, gaining firsthand experience of this cultural exchange. Students were able to visit a local high school, participate in Halloween events, Visit and tour the Centre for Civil and Human Rights and many other cultural and educational locations within the city. For the DAI being able to take part in these exchanges is a part of our mission of fostering strong bond between the US and Germany.
The Halle Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting the understanding and continued friendship between Germans and Americans, plays a large role in helping to maintain this relationship by supporting groups in both countries to visit each other and exchange art and culture.
In the Winter edition of their journal, the Halle Foundation is highlighting this relationship. Their article “Cities Connected: Atlanta to Nuremberg” outlines the development of this partnership and the ways in which they are supporting cultural exchange between Germany and the United States this year.
