Black Lives Around the World *NEW DATE*
Description
In the spring of 2017, the film series titled “Black Lives in America” was launched with the aim of raising the profile of African American cinema. The series is intended as an invitation to shed light on the realities of Black life, struggles, and cultural expressions in various historical and geographical contexts.
New this year is the division of the season into two parts: Part 1 took place during Black History Month. Part 2 now follows around Juneteenth, the day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S., which marks June 19, 1865, when the emancipation of the last enslaved people in Texas was proclaimed. The film “Michael” will be screened. He is one of the most influential artists of all time—the King of Pop. MICHAEL is a portrait of an exceptional artist whose music has moved the world and inspired every generation to this day. A discussion with activists from the ISD Nuremberg will follow the screening!
All films will be shown in their original language with German subtitles.
This event is taking place in cooperation with us, the German-American Institute, die Initiative Schwarzer Menschen in Deutschland, and the Casablanca Filmkunsttheater.
