US at 250 years: What is happening with Democracy, Human Rights & Belonging (for English Language Learners)

This training supports teachers in turning these real-world developments — including challenges to democratic institutions, voting access, immigration enforcement, and civic participation — into meaningful, age-appropriate language-learning opportunities. At the same time, students are introduced to the basic human rights that protect dignity, safety, and voice.

Designed for high school teachers working in English language learning environments, this workshop uses simple vocabulary, clear sentence frames, and accessible activities to explore human rights, democracy, voting, migration, and belonging in ways that feel safe, relevant, and empowering for language learners.

Teachers learn how to teach complex ideas in supportive, clear English — without fear, overload, or political debate — while strengthening students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The course is practical, trauma-aware, and immediately usable in diverse classrooms, including migrant, refugee, and international school settings.

This seminar is led by Corrine Tucker, Human Rights Educational Consultant and founder of Let Them Learn - Empowered Human Rights Hub, an organization which offers many services, including workshops aimed at children and young adults giving them an opportunity to become more empowered by understanding their rights.
